About Connect Four

Connect Four is the classic two-player strategy game played on a 7-column by 6-row vertical grid. Discs drop to the lowest available slot in the column you pick, so every move is constrained by gravity — you can't place anywhere you like. The goal is simple to learn and surprisingly deep: line up four of your discs horizontally, vertically, or diagonally before your opponent does. This version pits you against a minimax AI with three difficulty levels.

How to Play

1. Pick a difficulty: Easy, Medium, or Hard.
2. Press "Start Game" — you play red and move first.
3. Click or tap a column to drop your disc into it.
4. Your disc falls to the lowest empty slot in that column.
5. Line up four in a row — across, down, or diagonally — to win.
6. If all 42 slots fill with no line of four, the round is a draw.

Tips & Strategy

• Play the centre column: The middle column sits inside more possible four-in-a-rows than any other, so controlling it gives you the most winning lines.
• Build a double threat: Create two open three-in-a-rows at once — the AI can only block one of them.
• Watch what you hand over: Because discs stack, filling a slot can gift your opponent the winning square directly above it.
• Don't only play defence: Blocking every threat without building your own lets the AI dictate the whole board.
• Hard mode looks ahead: The Hard AI searches several moves deep, so it will punish a careless drop — set traps rather than hoping it blunders.
