About Pixel Racer

Pixel Racer is a top-down endless highway racer with a neon retro aesthetic. You control a lone sports car hurtling down a four-lane motorway packed with slower traffic moving in both directions. The road scrolls faster and faster as time goes on — and surviving requires reading the traffic pattern several cars ahead.

The scoring system rewards aggression. Threading your car within pixels of another vehicle without touching it awards a near-miss bonus. Collecting orange nitro canisters temporarily doubles your speed and makes threading tight gaps both more dangerous and more rewarding. Oil slicks slow you into oncoming traffic if you hit them — and at high speeds, that's almost always fatal.

How to Play

  1. Use Left/Right arrow keys (or A/D) to change lanes. Your car moves one lane at a time.
  2. Press SPACE or ⚡ to activate Nitro when your nitro bar is full — doubles speed for 3 seconds.
  3. Avoid crashing into traffic cars. One hit ends the run.
  4. Collect orange ⚡ canisters to fill your nitro bar.
  5. Dodge yellow ☠ oil slicks — they lock your steering for 1.5 seconds.
  6. Survive as long as possible and score near-miss bonuses by threading tight gaps.

Scoring

  • Distance: 1 point per metre travelled. Speed multiplies distance points at higher speeds.
  • Near-miss bonus: +50 points each time you pass within 8px of a traffic car without hitting it.
  • Dodge streak: Consecutive near-misses without touching the brakes double your bonus to +100.
  • Nitro run bonus: All points earned during an active nitro boost are worth 2×.

Tips & Strategy

  • Read two rows ahead: At high speeds the road scrolls fast. Your eyes should be on cars two positions ahead of you, not the car right in front.
  • Stay in the middle lanes: Lanes 1 and 4 (the edges) give you only one escape direction. The two centre lanes always give you a choice.
  • Time nitro for open road: Activating nitro in dense traffic is suicidal. Save it for a gap when traffic clears — you'll cover huge distance in 3 seconds of doubled speed.
  • Near-misses are worth more than safety: At top speed, playing it safe scores fewer points than threading gaps deliberately. The near-miss bonus stacks fast.
  • Oil slicks are worse than cars: A slick in dense traffic is nearly a guaranteed crash. Memorise their yellow colour and treat them as hard obstacles.
