About Grid Conquest

Grid Conquest is a retro-styled strategic territory game inspired by the timeless three-in-a-row format. Your goal is simple: place your mark (✕) on a 3×3 grid and form a line of three — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally — before the AI opponent (○) does the same.

What sets Grid Conquest apart is its three-tier AI difficulty system. On Easy mode, the AI makes random moves — perfect for casual play or learning the ropes. Medium mode introduces a smarter opponent that will block your winning moves and take its own when available. Hard mode features a minimax algorithm that plays perfectly — if you find a way to win, it's a genuine achievement.

How to Play

  1. Select a difficulty level: Easy, Medium, or Hard.
  2. Click "Start Game" — you always play as ✕ and move first.
  3. Click any empty square on the 3×3 grid to place your mark.
  4. The AI will respond immediately with its move (○).
  5. First player to get three of their marks in a row — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally — wins the round.
  6. If all 9 squares are filled with no winner, the round is a draw. Build your win streak!

Tips & Strategy

  • Control the center: The center square (position 5) is the most powerful — it connects to 4 winning lines. Always take it on your first move if it's available.
  • Corner openings: If you can't take the center, corners are the second-best choice. Corners participate in 3 winning lines each.
  • Create a fork: Set up two simultaneous winning threats. The AI can only block one, guaranteeing your win.
  • On Hard mode: Perfect play from both sides always results in a draw. Can you force a draw consistently against the minimax AI?
